Composed in 2007, Tom Cipullo’s acclaimed opera Glory Denied is the story of the longest-held American prisoner of war from the Vietnam era, and his agonizing re-introduction to an America that had moved on without him. Based on Tom Philpott’s book of the same name, Cipullo’s masterful adaptation makes a lasting impression with a thrillingly varied score and a mesmerizing libretto. With over twenty productions to date, Glory Denied is already one of the most frequently performed pieces of the 21st century. Cara Consilvio is a director and producer of opera, theater, and film. She recently directed for Opera in the Heights, Chautauqua Opera and the Ad Astra Music Festival. In the Spring of 2021, she directed the chamber opera season at Grand Rapids Opera. In 2020, Cara directed for Opera Carolina, Opera Grand Rapids and Opera in the Heights. Other stage directing engagements include new productions at Chautauqua Opera, Anchorage Opera, Syracuse Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, and Piedmont Opera. Cara is a co-founder of Hup! Productions and is currently in post-production on her feature film directing debut, a feature documentary called For the Love of Friends, which will premiere on the film festival circuit in 2022.
